We are under attack

What just happened? Americans storming the Capitol? I’m not sure I have the words to express how horrified Steve and I are. There were so many things wrong with what we saw today and so few words to convey our shock, anger, fear, sadness. Some of the our most immediate concerns and reactions were:

1-watching Americans storm the Capitol. What the @#$%&?!

2-being somewhat unclear about how serious it was that Americans were storming the Capitol due to watered down American media coverage. Watching the BBC’s coverage had us questioning whether we were living in America at all and not some Third World country. Thank heavens for world coverage.

3-the fact that the police were unprepared for an attack.

4-the fact that police were left unprotected during a violent attack.

5-marveling at the difference in police response and preparation for a rally that was known to have attracted a significant number of white nationalists and white supremacists versus a Black Lives Matter protest.

6-the fact that white nationalists, white supremacists, domestic terrorists, and violent demonstrators were allowed to ransack and desecrate the hallowed halls of our United States Capitol for hours.

7-the fact that the National Guard took hours to arrive.

8-listening to senators and house representatives continue to spout lies mere hours after a violent deadly attack against our democracy.

9-being stunned that others were stunned that this happened. It has been obvious that this is where our country was headed if hate, lies, and divisiveness were allowed to run rampant.

We hope for healing. We hope for unity. We hope that those who have lost loved ones today will be comforted.

Please stop the lies.

Please stop the hate.

We are all Americans.
