What kind of a plant are you?

This week in Come Follow Me we talked about how Alma taught the poor Zoramites about testimonies and likened spiritual growth to a seed.

As part of the lesson we talked about what our testimonies of the Church and Savior look like today. We discussed the need for constant care and nourishment of our growth or it will not be robust and can even wither and die. We also talked about withholding judgement when interacting with others who are at different stages in their spiritual development. I invited the kids to look at all the things growing in our yard and stand by the plant that best represents their testimony.

J and D chose the peach trees because they are big trees that have the best fruit. They said this best describes their belief in God.

C also chose the peach tree, but just to look cool.

Then he chose the Armenian cucumber because it was small and growing like him.

M chose the watermelon because she feels like her testimony is growing well, but she has questions she is thinking through and feels like she is in the middle of building it.

I chose the Lacebark Elm that we thought had died, but after tending it carefully it has sprouted new growth. My testimony is one that I nearly lost and have to work fiercely to maintain.

Steve identified with the peach tree because he has never had questions about the Church or the Savior. His testimony is strong and sure.

I love how the Come Follow Me program allows us to visualize gospel teachings in meaningful ways.
