Pandemic swim lessons

The one thing the kids have looked forward to all summer is swim lessons because then everything would feel normal and the coronavirus could be forgotten for a few minutes each day. We showed up for swim lessons and every precaution the CDC advised was being disregarded despite the fact the swim school had advertised adherence. We couldn't go back and M, J, and D were devastated.

So I paid for private lessons so my children could get in the water and be carefree kids. I felt guilty doing this because NPR kept discussing the fact that many privileged Americans were paying for private swim lessons while disadvantaged (mainly poor and minority) children's rec centers were closed and they had no access to pools. M, J, and D came alive in the water and it was a beautiful thing to see.. Life isn't even close to fair.
