Anniversary home church

Our church time changes every year. Last year we had home church in the morning and church meetings in the afternoon. It worked well and was an awesome year. This year our church meetings are in the morning which has pushed home church to the afternoon. This has not been a smooth transition for any of us. In fact, in a quiet moment during dinner last week D calmly stated he did not like afternoon home church. Everyone concurred.

But I had an epiphany during our lesson today. Whereas last year we covered the scripture story before discussing personal application, this year the story will have been covered in church and we will be able to put more emphasis on doctrine and personal application. Once that was clear in my mind we focused on the lessons we can take from Nephi building a ship, heeding the Liahona, and fighting with his family. After the lesson the kids made their own ships and floated them in the bathtub. The kids loved it. We had peaceful home church for an hour and forty five minutes. I feel rejuvenated and recommitted to the Come Follow Me curriculum.

In other news, it is our anniversary. Eighteen years. We are not good at celebrating things. We seem to self destruct so we chose to have a day at home with our kids. It worked. We had a lovely day with regular levels of drama. We had nice church meetings, wonderful home church, a delicious dinner, and finished with panna cotta topped with a blueberry reduction.

I was feeling a little nostalgic so I pulled out our wedding album and found these gems.

Steve, even though we self destruct on dates, I love you. You are a kind and good man and I made a wonderful decision when I decided to make a life with you. We are truly living the dream.
