The radio

I was reading a book when M announced she was bored. She asked to go on YouTube to listen to music. Now here was my dilemma...I was engrossed in the story and did not want to have to monitor visual content. We are very open with our children and talk to them frequently about internet safety and what to do when they encounter inappropriate images, but we are still physically present when our kids are online.

If only there was a way for her to listen to music without me having to be so vigilant about images...and then I remembered...

Once upon a time there was a thing called the radio. It was a magical place you could explore with the flick of a finger. Music of all genres were available for your listening pleasure. Instead of curated playlists and suggestions based on your previous consumption you were introduced to all new stuff all the time. You might like it. You might hate it. But each station offered its own experience.

With this in mind, I pulled out our old radio and showed M how to use it. It was a learning curve, but she quickly got the hang of it and spent the rest of the night exploring different sounds. I don't think she will make a habit of using the radio, but it was something different to try in this fast paced world.

J wanted to learn how to use the radio too.

She blew a bubble inside a bubble.
That is the kind of thing that happens when you expand your horizons.
