Grading the backyard

Steve and I have been at odds for a year on how to proceed with the backyard. He wanted it professionally leveled and graded and I wanted to skip to the grass part. Ultimately we compromised. I agreed to having it leveled if he rented the equipment and did it himself. After several more months of discussion the day of leveling arrived. I wish I would have taken a picture of the behemoth tiller he rented. It was so powerful I thought it was going to rip his arms out of his socket, but he handled it like a pro and is very grateful for ibuprofen.

Something breaks at the beginning of every project we start. This time it was the rake and the tiller. Steve had to return to the rental place twice before he could get it started.

We all went outside to level the dirt and rake and remove rocks.

Steve worked hard all day.

C stayed right beside Dad until he threw rocks at his siblings.

Little boys who throw rocks have to sit on the stairs.

M, J, and D hated this project and probably would have thrown rocks at each other if they thought they would be lucky enough to have to sit it out like C, but they knew it was better just to work together and finish. They were soooooo glad when it was over.
