Steve taught home church and did an object lesson where he hammered two pieces of 2x4 together. He asked the kids to pull it apart. They could not and he told them that just like they could not separate the pieces of wood, the Savior's love cannot be separated from us. Yes, there are consequences to actions, but He will always love us whether we can feel it or not.
