Zoo and Nerf gun war

Today was free day at the zoo so obviously that is where we went. We love going to the zoo in the winter. The crowds are almost nonexistent if you get there right when they open, it is has cool temperatures, and the animals are more active. Today had an almost magical feel because large snowflakes fell for the first hour we were there.

Putting the binoculars that Santa brought to good use to see zebras.

Spread eagle.

C wanted to be like J and D.

Seeing the real bald eagle.

Watching sea lions and seals was a highlight.

First time seeing the red panda.

The cats were very active chasing and pouncing on each other.. It was pretty awesome.

Somewhere behind us is a sleeping cat.

The turkmenian markhor was interesting to watch.
You can tell how excited (or bored) the kids are by their faces.

 The snow was beautiful.

M was a good sport about having her pic taken.

 J was not.

Love this one.

They wanted one with the lion before we called it a day.

When got home, C went down for a nap and the boys rode their bikes. When Steve got home from work he called me outside to show me that the boys had created beds for their new possessions.

And that night the most awesome thing happened. We were invited to a Nerf gun war at our church. My Friend throws a huge party for her teens where they gather all their friends and shoot one another with Nerf weapons. Truthfully, I find it a little disturbing given our current climate, but of course we went and the kids had a blast and got to use the Nerf guns Grammy and Grampy gave them two days ago. They needed an extra person so Steve played too. He was not really thrilled, but he's an accurate shot so he started winning and the other kids thought he was pretty cool. And a shout out to M...she was the only girl there and she got right in there and shot as aggressively as the rest of them. That's my Girl!

Dressed and ready for battle and so disappointed to be shooting
Nerf guns in the safety of the foyer with Mom.
