New Year's Eve 2018

It's the last holiday of the year and the kids were eager to celebrate it.

We made cupcakes the night before.

I was wishing for a blast chiller (clearly I have been watching too many cooking shows on Netflix) to cool the cupcakes so we could frost them when I realized it was freezing outside. Placing cupcakes outside to chill is ingenuity at its finest. Steve was certain hooligans were lurking nearby ready to spit on them. We agreed to disagree.

M was thrilled to pipe the frosting.

So was D.

These were the ones J frosted.

Goofballs.

C was desperate to grab cupcakes or the camera. He did not have a preference, just a determination.

M showed us how to rip off the bottom half of the cupcake and place it on top of the frosting creating creating a cake version of an Oreo. Genius.

During New Year's Eve day they played with Legos and kinetic sand.

We ate dinner, clinked our cups of sparkling apple cider and said "Cheers!"

We watched football and ate the cupcakes we made the night before.

Full disclosure:
I read while they watched football. C thought it would be fun to join me. He lasted five minutes. Maybe the content was too advanced?

M loves New Year's Eve. It's one of her favorite holidays. Staying up until midnight is a real treat. The boys were heartbroken when they had to go to bed, but that's the way the cookie crumbles when you are six and eight. M had a three part plan for the night with Mom and Dad once the boys went down. 1) Play games 2) Watch movies 3) Go outside at midnight and scream.

We played Mancala which is a fam favorite. We checked out Incredibles and The Adventures of Tin Tin from the library. Incredibles was scratched all to heck so we joined Tin Tin in his quest for answers. At midnight we ran outside and watched the neighbor's fireworks, but there was no screaming. We kept trying to get M to let out a primal New Year holler, but nope. Fact: at some point she will want to be with her friends for holidays like this. I'm glad she wanted to spend this one with us. Love you, Baby Girl!
