First harvest

When the contractor built the retaining wall he dug a huge hole in the garden area and dumped bucketfuls of gravel. We were late getting the garden in and when it came time to plant, we had to use a pickax to break through the rock. That combined with blistering heat did not give me a lot of hope for produce this year. I did some research and learned of a technique called core gardening and darn it all if that did not rock our world. (No pun intended.) It reduced our water usage and we had the earliest and biggest yield in all our years here.

So excited for yellow and green zucchini, yellow crookneck, tomatoes, and Armenian cucumbers!
