Telling the kids

After a pretty rough night, Steve and I decided to tell the kids that Romi is dying and we are going to let nature take its course. We gathered them around and explained what was happening. The boys reacted with questions like, "When is he going to die?" and " Where should we bury him?" But M curled into a ball and stared at the ground while her tears dripped off her nose and chin. I was sitting on the stairs and pulled her into my arms and we sat and cried together for an hour while Steve corralled the boys away from our cry fest. True to form, even though Romi was not feeling well, he came to M's side and tried to console her. He is the best cat ever.

As the day went on I found M and Romi snuggled up together.

And this picture appeared on the fridge. (J added "and Mongo." He felt like she shouldn't be left out.)
