J's FHE

J wanted to do Family Home Evening tonight. He asked Dad to help him. They locked themselves in the bedroom and when they came out J came prepared with seeds, a handout with a tree drawn on it, and key words to talk about written on his paper. They chose the topic of faith, mostly because Steve had just given his lesson on faith in Gospel Doctrine yesterday and it was fresh on the mind. J did a great job. Sure do love that kid.

Dad helping J remember what to say.

Showing his talking points.

His tree handout. He made one for everyone.

His talking points about faith. 1) It's an action word. 2) It is unseen. 3) It is evidence of our love for Heavenly Father. 4) It is the substance of His love for us.

Here is what we believe about faith. Truthfully it is a difficult one for me. I really like to have a plan and have that plan work out the way I want it to. Heavenly Father's vision for me has been somewhat different than my own so when we talk about faith in our home I make a point of teaching that ultimately faith means we do the best we can in difficult circumstances. We simply strive to put Heavenly Father at the forefront of our lives with the hope that all will work out in the end because this middle stuff can get mucky. Thanks J and Dad for giving us an opportunity to talk about faith again.
