Carbon dioxide rockets

Time for science Sunday. We headed to the front yard with water, alka seltzer, and film canisters. A tablespoon of water with a half a tablet of alka seltzer launched those canisters twenty feet in the air. It was awesome. M, J, and D were scared and cautious for the first half hour, but then they could not get enough. There was squealing and cheering as we talked about how carbon dioxide is released, creates pressure and results in an explosion. We live in a pretty incredible world.

The ingredients.

So stinking cool.

M threatening to lick alka seltzer.

J jumping like an exploding film canister.

He was the least cautious.

D was the most cautious, but ended up loving it.

Steve liked this experiment. Total win.

C sat on the lawn and watched silently for an hour.
