Christmas 2016

Christmas Eve arrived and our kiddo's excitement could not be contained. After I got home from work, we headed to Steve's parents house for their traditional clam chowder dinner, new pajamas, and pictures by the tree. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Then we raced home to set out milk and caramel for Santa.

Then Santa came.

Then the kids found out Santa came. While Steve and I do not buy things for the kids, we thought it would be nice for M, J, and D to buy things for each other. We let them choose which parent would accompany them to the dollar store and they bought one item for each sibling. Imagine Steve's and my delight when they all chose the exact same toy for each other. We couldn't wait for them to realize it on Christmas morning. They thought it was awesome and so did we.

Another highlight were the light sabers in their stockings. It brought out their inner Star Warrior.

Then Dad helped the boys build with their new wood building kits complete with their very own hammers that Santa brought.

And M and I worked on a science project from her new chemistry set Santa delivered.

Then Steve built a snow slide in the front yard and played with the kids for hours.

And then it was time for church.

We ended the night with Steve learning to fly the drone I got him and a few silly pics with J and C.

And then there was the gift Steve got me. Do you remember the sentimental plate my boys broke a while back? Well Steve contacted the gal who made the original one and commissioned her to make another. I opened it and was immediately struck by how ugly and deformed this one was as opposed to the original. The edges were misshapen and there were air pockets and cracks throughout the plate where air had escaped during the firing process. But the plate was basically the same. A square with two rings in the middle. In addition, the artist had included four star ornaments-one for each of our children. As I stared at it Steve began apologizing for the appearance. He was worried I would not like it. I told him to stop. This plate was symbolic of our story. We have been together 15 years. There have been good times and bad. The experiences we have shared have caused us to crack and bend; we are no longer new and shiny, but at the end of the day we are still together and love each other dearly. And we have four beautiful babies who have come to us in their own unique way. I lovingly placed this new plate on our piano. A reminder of how perfectly blessed I am in the midst of imperfection.

It was a lovely Christmas.
