Christmas Eve

After I got home from work we headed to Grammy and Grampy's house for a Christmas Eve celebration. The big event of the night was a checkers game between Steve and his mom. They eventually had to call it because they were at an impasse, but it was neck and neck the whole game.

When we got home we set out cookies for Santa. Of note, Steve and M made cookies from a mix a neighbor gave us while I was at work. They were shortbread and as I understand it, Santa was quite pleased with them.

One of Steve's fondest Christmas memories was hearing Santa's sleigh bells. Apparently there was a neighbor who ran through the streets shaking the bells and enhancing the visions of sugarplums in every child's dreams. Because of this, the last two years Steve has gone out in the snow under M's window to shake bells. The next day she tells us very matter-of-factly that Santa was here because she heard his sleigh. I love Christmas with kids.

Here is another fun Christmas adventure...there was a significant snow/ice storm that breezed through making it impossible to get to my Mom's house for the gifts we had purchased for Santa to give so we got to improvise. Thankfully, we had picked up a couple small things and told Santa where they were hidden in the house. It worked out perfectly.
