Protect and defend

Mongo joined our family when she was 4 years old. We got her from a family who had 2 active boys who were going to be evicted if they did not find her a new home. Those boys terrorized her, but she didn't seem to mind. She would not run for cover, but would sit and take whatever they could dish out. She never bit or scratched them and she has never bitten or scratched M. In fact, she is very protective of babies. With M and now with J, she lays nearby and watches to make sure nothing out of the ordinary happens. She stays just out of reach while kids are stationary and yet jumps in the fray when the kids are on the move. Her behavior is kind of backwards. J is well on his way to being an active little boy and my heart goes out to Mongo because it is just a matter of time before I am pulling fistfuls of cat hair from his eager hands.

Speaking of eager boys, M had some friends who came to play and they had a ball following Mongo and petting the living daylights out of her. They were very soft and gentle and I couldn't help but smile at their enthusiasm and their previously unknown allergies.

After they lost interest with Mongo they danced around the house, fell on the floor laughing, and spent some time on the stairs getting some impressive carpet burns.
