Are we gonna go to da zoo this summer?

In March Grammy and Grampy watched M for us while we went on a date. When we returned, Grammy informed us she had told M that they would do all sorts of fun things when summer came. The first item of business was the zoo. Since March, M has asked on a weekly basis, "Are we gonna go to da zoo this summer?" I am tired of this question and since then we have asked all grandparents to refrain from discussing awesome trips anywhere until the event is closer. Thankfully, today was summer and today Grammy treated us and M's aunt and cousins to the Hogle Zoo.

M did not display hardly any of the excitement and anticipation she had exuded prior to today. In fact, within minutes of arriving she had her fingers in her ears and was hard pressed to remove them. The two exceptions were the first half of the bird show and the train ride. Despite her less than warm reaction, I know we will be hearing about the amazing animals for months to come.

We started out with Baby Zuri who recently turned 1 year old.
For the record, not a favorite of M's.

The giraffe was a favorite.

The gorilla was not a favorite.

The wild cat was a favorite.
She did not want to leave the glass.

The iguana who had gotten out of his cage was not a favorite.

The bird show was a favorite until the macaw
screamed in the microphone and then...

the fingers went in the ears.

The train was a favorite.

Here are some cousin shots. It was fun to be with them.

Look at those big blue eyes.

Thanks for the wonderful time Grammy!

  1. So funny when kids have such preferences! Ella loves Zuri and always wants to just stay and watch her play. You are such an awesome mom and I loved having you drop by. We need to make those happen more often!
