Adoption Yard Sale (the sequel)

After a month of intense planning, coordination, and going through vast amounts of stuff we had the ADOPTION YARD SALE on Saturday. We had so many fabulous contributions. We were so touched by the things and the sheer volume of items donated. Thank you to all who cleaned out your closets, basements, and garages. We could not have done it without you!!

Now a project this large does not come without its challenges and wouldn't ya know that the one weekend we choose to hold this thing just happens to be the one where massive amounts of rain fall from the sky and the weather is a balmy 60 degrees. The yard sale was supposed to start at 8:00 am and we wanted to start setting up at 6:30 (but it was raining), 7:00 (still raining), and finally at 7:30 (drizzle or no drizzle) the show must go on! We started pulling stuff out of the garage and under canopies. We had a true miracle on Saturday. The rain held off until 3:00 pm and then it was an absolute downpour. That was the time we had all been praying for. Such a blessing. Minor for some, huge for us.

These are our friends who we did the yard sale with.
Totally fabulous people who are also looking to expand their family.

Here is another totally awesome couple looking to
expand their family. ;)

We sold hot dogs, soda, and otterpops (it was a little cold for those)
and when it started raining we raced to pull everything inside.

Bring on the rain!!

We had so many people show up. What an overwhelming response. Thanks to the proceeds from this grand adventure we are closer to our goal of adopting another child.

But let's talk about our firstborn for a moment...M never gets sick. Ever. I can count on one hand the number of illnesses she has had in her 3 years of life. Of course she would wake up totally sick on Saturday morning. The poor thing just wanted to be held, but it is hard to strike a deal with someone when she is in your arms. My family was awesome to step in and watch her throughout the day. I finally sent her to our house with my little sister to watch a movie. After everything was cleaned up from the yard sale I got a call that said it was time to come home because M had vomited and my sister didn't want to clean it up. (I ask you...where is the love?) So we run home and hold our vomitous child for the rest of the night. Lest you think our adventures end there, we were awakened at 3:40 am by the little sicky. (I have tons of compassion for her during normal business hours, but not during the wee hours of the morning.) I crawled into bed with her and we slept until 11:00. I stayed home with her and when Steve got home from church we took a family nap in our bed. We have a full size and we were pretty cramped, but because of illness and exhaustion we were out for hours. Now days later M is on the mend and Steve and I are not feeling well.

And that has been our weekend and weekbeginning. Tender mercies abound.
